The
Clarksburg-Harrison Cultural
Foundation, Inc., a non-profit
corporation formed in 1972,
was established to receive bequests,
grants, gifts of money and other
items of financial, cultural,
and historic value. It serves
as the cultural conduit for
the community and its arts organizations.
The Foundation is empowered
to invest, manage, and administer
funds and other property given
or bequeathed by individuals,
businesses, corporations, foundations,
and organizations. It is governed
by a 15-member Board of Directors.
Since its inception in 1972,
the Foundation has raised $323,125
in local funds for the $1.6
million library; has raised
and has distributed more than
$175,000 for arts programs;
has purchased a concert grand
piano for community use and
has raised an additional $8,000
to maintain it; has begun and
has initially administered the
Harrison County Public Schools
Artist-in-Residence program;
has purchased a large antique
oriental rug and dehumidifier
for Waldomore; has purchased
an etching press which is in
the art department of Robert
C. Byrd High School and is available
to art teachers throughout the
county; has purchased 12 display
screens for the gallery area
of the library; has started
the student art exhibits program;
and currently sponsors the Artist
of the Month program with the
Harrison County Library System.
The Foundation has held Antique
Appraisals and art shows, whose
profit augments the Endowment
Fund.
All contributions to the Endowment
Fund are held in trust for the
beneficial purpose of the Foundation,
are treated as principal of
the trust, are invested, and
only the income is used for
the activities and purposes
of the Foundation.
